In a groundbreaking development, the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art football academy has been laid in Oro, Irepodun local government area of Kwara State, marking a significant stride towards creating a powerhouse in football talent development.

The project, touted to be a "powerful football house," aims to not only groom athletes but also include an agricultural section to provide training in farming vocations.
The disclosure was made during the foundation laying ceremony by Kumbi Titiloye, the Chairman of Kwara United Football Club.

Titiloye emphasized the potential of private-owned football academies, citing the success of current Super Eagles players who emerged from similar projects.
He stated, "I was the administrator of Football College, Abuja, and I know the importance of the private sector in the football industry."
Highlighting the impact of private initiatives, Titiloye added, "We were able to groom players who have broken into the various national teams in the men’s category.
Most of the current crop of players in the Super Eagles are products of the private sector, and I am proud to be one of them.
Players like Sadiq Umar and Dennis Bonaventure are part of such projects." He called for government support to further enhance the academy's capabilities.
Senator John Enoh, the Minister of Sports, commended the project's initiator, recognizing its potential to add significant value to the community.
Additionally, Hon Adeboye Adeyinka, the Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to the Minister, revealed that the community had generously donated the land for the project.

Adeyinka outlined the academy's broader vision, stating, "We intend to have facilities to train for other sports peculiar to the North Central and also an agricultural section since not all of them can be successful in football."

As the football academy takes shape, it is poised to transform Kwara State into a hub for talent manufacturing, blending athletic prowess with agricultural skills, thereby setting a new benchmark for holistic athlete development in Nigeria.
